Benefits of Membership


The FriendShip offers a variety of programs and services designed to help older adults in the Columbia area stay in their homes, including:

  • Personalized Assistance.  Trained volunteers provide support to the members of The FriendShip.  Volunteer services include transportation, errands, home maintenance support, technology assistance, appointment support, minor home repairs, and social engagement opportunities.
  • Activities & Programs.  To support member interests and to facilitate friendship, social connection, and engagement in the community, The FriendShip offers an array of activities and programs including special events, cultural outings, expert guest speakers, and discussions of topics of interest.


Membership Levels


  • Full Membership ($600 annually for 1 member, $900 for 2-member household) includes:
    • Access to 8 service requests per month (12 for household memberships)
    • Participation in all activities and programs
  • Associate Membership ($120 annually for 1 member, $180 for 2-member household) includes:
    • Access to 1 service request per year
    • Participation in all activities and programs


Limitations:  The FriendShip is not able to provide medical or personal care services, transportation services to those in wheelchairs, services to those who live in a designated senior residence, or services to those with dementia.


Membership Application Steps

*Please note that we are holding new full member applications on a wait list at this time. We are working to bring on board new volunteers before we can serve new full members. 


  • Click here to apply online, or download, print, and mail a paper application, or call the office to have an application mailed to you (803-602-6434)  
  • Submit a completed application form
  • Complete a personal interview with members of the Member Committee 
  • Receive an offer of Membership following a review of application materials by the Board of Directors

You will be contacted by a volunteer from The FriendShip for follow-up once your application is received.
